Lesson 4 of 4

Scoring & Payouts

Understanding how money (or points) flows in Filipino Mahjong.

The Basics: Who Pays?

In Filipino Mahjong, the winner collects the value of their hand from every other player. The base value is usually a set amount (e.g., $1.00).

PlayerAmount
Winner (Hand Value: $1.00)+$3.00
Player 2-$1.00
Player 3-$1.00
Player 4-$1.00

Doubling Rules

Todas (Discard Win)

If someone discards the tile you need to win, that player pays you double.

Bunot (Self-Draw)

If you draw the winning tile yourself, all players pay you double.

Pro Tip: If the dealer (máno) rolls doubles at the start of the round, all payouts for that round are doubled again!

Ambitions (Big Bonuses)

Ambitions are difficult hands that grant a +$1.00 bonus to your hand value.

Siete Pares

Win with 7 pairs and 1 meld.

+$1.00

Escalera

A 1-9 sequence in a single suit.

+$1.00

All Pong

A hand consisting only of Pongs.

+$1.00

+$1.00

Special Payouts (Small Bonuses)

Smaller strategic wins grant +$0.25 or +$0.50 bonuses.

Paningit (+$0.25)

Winning with a middle tile (e.g., needing 5 to complete 4-5-6).

Single (+$0.25)

Winning by completing your pair.

Hardest (+$0.50)

Winning with a tile that has 3 copies already revealed on the table.

Quick Win (+$0.50)

Winning before the 5th discard of the round.

The Jai Alai Pot

Jai Alai tracks wins across multiple hands. Players earn "markers" for every win:

  • Standard Win: +1 Marker
  • Bunot: +1 Extra Marker
  • Each Ambition: +1 Extra Marker

The first player to reach 5 markers triggers an instant $1.00 payout from all other players!
